Required Courses
The program at Teachers College leading to an EdD in Nursing Education and Health Behavior requires a minimum of 90 points. A maximum of 38 points or graduate school credit hours can be transferred from another university. The program itself will comprise 51 points across four areas: Nursing, Health Behavior, Research, and Education. Students must choose a functional emphasis area in research or education or other area consistent with program and with advisor approval. Nine points in addition to those points required of all students must be taken in the functional area.

Other requirements:
Throughout the course of study, the student must work with a faculty mentor who is a regular full-time faculty member in the Nursing Education Program to plan the student's course of study and research area. It is expected that the student will meet with the faculty mentor at least once per semester. Changes in the plan of study must be approved by the faculty mentor.

To facilitate advisement, at least one course taught by full-time faculty members in Nursing Education must be taken within the first year of study.

Certification examination will be on Nursing and Health Behavior areas, and will include research issues related to these areas. Certification exams must be taken prior to the student taking 30 hours at Teachers College.

Students will be expected to develop their dissertation proposal when taking the course HBSN 6540 Dissertation Design and Development Seminar. Students must maintain continuous enrollment in this course until the semester when the student is ready to present the proposal and take the departmental examination. Additional semesters of enrollment in HBSN 6540 will not be counted toward degree requirements. Enrollment in HBSN 7500 Dissertation Seminar is required during the semester the student presents the dissertation proposal for approval.
