The Program in Computing in Education at Teachers College began offering an Intensive version of its 32-credit M.A. degree in the summer of 1983. Since then, about twenty educators have entered the program each year, taking courses here at Teachers College in intensive July sessions, and taking online courses and conducting independent projects during the rest of the year.
In the Fall 2007 term, we began a version of this program in which students may take all of their courses online.
Teachers College began teaching courses online ten years ago. Our courses use different combinations of asynchronous discussion forums and Web video meetings. They emphasize inquiry, reflection, active project work, and interaction between students and between students and instructors.
Participants in our M.A. Program in Computing in Education now have the option of coming to Teachers College in July to take courses with our faculty, work in person with other students, and see New York City.
Or they can do all their course work online. And they can decide along the way which of these options to pursue.Students in both versions of the program also have the opportunity to come together in person for a two-day workshop before the July session begins
