Peace One Day - Internet TV Channel Launch
Peace One Day began as a film project which was launched in 1999 to document the creation of the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence with a fixed calendar date. In 2001, Peace One Day achieved its primary objective. The United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution formally establishing an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the UN International Day of Peace fixed in the global calendar on 21 September - Peace Day.
Since then, with the backing of world leaders, Nobel Peace Laureates, corporations and countless individuals around the world, Peace One Day has been working to raise awareness of Peace Day and to engage all sectors of society in the Day's observance in accordance with the resolution. On 21 September 2006 there were activities in 200 countries, directly involving 27.6 million people.
Peace One Day is now proud to announce the launch of its very own interactive Internet television channel -- Peace One Day TV. The channel will reflect the ethos of Peace One Day. It will entertain, empower and inspire action. It will include material representing each continent and eventually provide programming available in the 6 official languages of the UN. The channel will be hosted by Joost - the company responsible for Skype - and will launch in October 07. If you have any films in your archive that you think might be suitable, or would like to discuss this further, please don't hesitate to contact us on: 020 7456 9180, info@peaceoneday.org or visit our website: www.peaceoneday.org

Peace Education in the Field
"Happy Synchronicity between Colombian National Education Plan and Colombia’s CIPE Creation" From: Gonzalo Rivera, Coordinador Operativo, Alianza Educación para la Construcción de Culturas de Paz
The Colombian National Education Plan 2006-2016 is a social pact that must guide the horizon, the planning and the social and political mobilization around the defense of the right for quality education. Nearly 20,000 education agents from all over the country proposed their initiatives related to ten main topics chosen by public consultation. Among these topics, peace education, “convivencia” and citizenship had the first place in preferences. It’s important to know that this subject did not appear in the past plan. But now, there are in Colombia thousands of persons, groups, organizations and communities working hard to create peace cultures in their daily realities in spite of the violence and conflicts that they have to face. In this way, the Colombian peace education movement was able to introduce in the new Plan the idea of peace education focused on a deep vision of personal dignity and human rights. At the same time, this movement promotes human pedagogies that take in account the multiples capacities and intelligences of human beings searching to reach and enjoy peace. It’s great that the creation of Colombia’s CIPE happens just in this context for CIPE’s methodology fits exactly with what the Colombian National Education Plan is seeking. To receive a copy of the complete plan please e-mail: secretariatecnica@educacionparalapaz.org.co or visit: www.plandecenal.edu.co
Report of the talk on "Peace Education and Human Rights" - India. Prepared by: Ms Sunita Varte
A talk on "Peace Education & Human Rights" was successfully held on 22nd Aug 2007 at Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC), New Delhi. The programme was jointly organized by Peace Education Resource Centre, India (PERC, India) and Russian Centre of Science & Culture (RCSC), New Delhi. Dr Saroj Pandey, Reader, Department of Teacher Education & Extension, NCERT spoke on the theme followed by a report from Dr Leban Serto, Coordinator - Centre for Peace Education (CFPEM). Dr. S.V. Cherkas, Deputy Director, RCSC chaired the programme. Mr. Vyacheslav J Topchyan, Counselor, Press & Culture, Russian Embassy was also present. The programme started with an introduction about PERC, India from Dr. Alana Golmei, Coordinator - PERC, India and was followed by introduction of the RCSC from Ms Purnima Anand, General Secretary of Indo-Russian Youth Club - RCSC.
22nd August is also the Day of Russian National Flag. As a dedication to this day, Ms. Maria Pavlova, Executive Secretary & Programme Coordinator - RCSC gave a presentation on the "Russian State Symbols" and also welcomed the members present on behalf of RCSC. Ms Khachungla Chalhang, Chairperson - PERC, India welcomed the speakers and members present on behalf of PERC, India. Dr. S.V. Cherkas, in his address, emphasized the critical role that Peace play in the survival of humanity. He highlighted the role of youth in promoting peace. In the light of the previous statement, he advocated the need to extend support to the youth movements. He pointed out that peace and human rights has become contextual after World War II which was also expressed in the UN declaration. He also discussed about the different interpretations of peace and human rights in different parts of the world and their inclusion in the educational systems.
The speaker of the day, Dr. Saroj Pandey at the start put forward the two objectives of Global Campaign for Peace Education, Public and Political support in spreading awareness and to incorporate Peace Education in the daily teaching to promote Peace. She talked about the various components of Peace Education. She emphasized upon Conflict Resolution, which is very relevant especially in India as the Indian society strictly adheres to the social hierarchy system which led to various sections of the society being deprived of basic Human Rights. She also talked about the need to adopt value-oriented approach of teaching Peace and Human Rights and incorporating components of peace in the curriculum at all levels of education which will ensure graded inculcation of values. She also highlighted how access to information due to globalization and liberalization increases violence in different ways. In view of that she pointed out how through NCF-2005, NCERT has come up with a different approach of imparting Peace Education and Human Rights. Learning is a process based on earlier experiences; therefore, the need for experiential learning has a wider implication on Peace Education and Human Rights.
Dr. Leban Serto gave a brief report of his participation in the 25th Anniversary of International Institute of Peace Education (IIPE) and the strategic meeting of GCC-CIPE recently held at New York. He shared a common viewpoint with the speaker on the essentiality to ponder upon how to spread awareness on Peace Education through various means. He advocated the philosophy of Live and Let Live. He also shared his experiences of the seminar wherein the participants discussed about a peaceful world 25 years from now and that such kind of a world is a possibility if we all work towards it. The talk and report was followed by questions & discussions. 35 members were present at the programme. Dr. Achan Mungleng (PERC, India) moderated the session.

Internet Video – “Resisting the drums of War”
I’d like to invite interested listserv members to take a look at the brief 10-minute video—also entitled “Resisting the Drums of War”—that I’ve put on my website at http://www.eidelsonconsulting.com/videos.php. The video describes how the current administration promoted the war in Iraq by targeting our personal and collective concerns about vulnerability, injustice, distrust, superiority, and helplessness. I expect that the continued occupation of Iraq--or an attack on Iran--will likely be presented to the public in much the same way. The video examines these warmongering appeals and offers some counterarguments against them. - Roy J. Eidelson, Ph.D.
