Components of an Application:
- Completed Application Form (online or on paper)
- $65 Application Fee
- 1-2 page Personal Statement
- Official Transcript(s)
- 2 Letters of Reference, preferably from academic advisors or professors
- Resume
- Correct Program Code (on the application form):
- SSTE: 32 pt M.A., Ed.M., Ed.D., Ph.D.
- SSTE-INIT: 38 pt M.A. with Initial Certification
- SSTE- PROF: 32 pt M.A. with Professional Certification
Note: If you are applying to the summer intensive program (INSTEP) please be sure to check it off on the application form, and note that housing is in the Summer Conference Center.- GRE - Not required, but recommended for GPA below 3.5
- Proof of Initial Teacher Certification (If applying for SSTE-PROF)

Qualification for admission to the program:
- M.A. students must have at least 21 credits in history by the time they complete the program. Typically, a minimum of 12 credits in history should be completed before admission to the program.
- M.A. applicants wishing to pursue Professional Certification in New York State should already have their Initial Certification.
- M.A. Initial Certification applicants will need 6 credits of foreign language or demonstrate foreign language proficiency (CLEP test or satisfaction of foreign language requirement from undergraduate institution) by the time they complete the program,
- Ed.M. applicants should typically have teaching or related professional experience, and an MA in Social Studies Education or a related content field.
- Ed.D. and Ph.D. applicants should typically have at least 1-2 years of teaching experience and an MA in Social Studies Education or a related content field.
