Registration and Program Advisement Procedures At the time of registration for the fall semester, all Master's students meet with Program faculty or staff to discuss their course of study. Throughout the remainder of the year, students are welcome to seek appointments with their advisors, as needed, or utilize open office hours, as posted each term. Keep in mind that changes in registration, forms concerning student teaching, and any exceptions from the course of study described later in this handbook need to be signed by Professor Crocco.
Ordinarily, Master's students in the pre-service (38 point) program will receive their student teaching placement assignments at fall registration. See Jennifer Cutsforth for further advisement about student teaching.
After completing all work for the Master's program (coursework and integrative project), students must be approved for graduation by Professor Crocco.
Further Advisement Forms and paperwork for student teaching and the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations are available in the Office of Field Support Services, located in
Whittier room L5, (212) 678-3466 or (212) 678-3471.
Information about jobs and placement services are available from the Teachers College Placement Office, located in 44 Horace Mann, (212) 678-3146. Go to this office for forms to set up a placement file, for listings of private/independent schools in the
New York metropolitan area, and for addresses for Teacher Certification Departments in states other than
New York.
Questions about student loans, scholarships, federal work-study, or other financial aid issues should be directed to the Student Aid Office, located in 138 Horace Mann, (212) 678-3729. The personnel in this office are in high demand; thus we recommend scheduling an appointment ahead of time for anything but the most routine questions.
Transcripts, grades, and general graduation procedures and forms can be obtained at the Registrar's Office, located in 148 Horace Mann, (212) 678-4050.
