Welcome to the Program in Social Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University!
We hope you will find here everything you need to learn about the oldest program in social studies teacher education in the United States. But we're more than tradition at Teachers College. In this program, you can study advances in digital technology and the ways in which they have affected social studies teacher education, cultural pluralism and the social studies, as well as ongoing issues of curriculum, instructional methods and materials, teacher education, and the rich history of the social studies. Whether your love is history, geography, government, economics or another of the social sciences, you can combine this passion with study of the many important educational questions that these disciplines present as they make their way into schools. We offer a variety of degrees that may be pursued in close working relationships with an outstanding faculty who are well-respected teacher educators, scholars and leaders in the field.
