Summer INSTEP MA (34 Points)
The Art and Art Education Summer program provides a low-residency experience and an in-service opportunity for art teachers to gain their Masters degree while studying in New York City over three summers. The experience is centered around an array of practices that integrate students theoretical inquiries with studio explorations in response to contemporary classroom issues.

Students participate in courses that investigate:
- Diversities of cultural practices and traditions
- The origins of artistic learning
- Critical theories and philosophical processes
- Communities of teaching and schooling
- Material thinking and image technologies
- Studio based research
This 34-point Master of Arts degree is specially designed for individuals seeking in-service opportunities, or who need the Master's degree to complete state Professional Certification. The Program offers courses combining work in pedagogy and instruction, research, studio, and contemporary studies in art education and is designed to allow some flexibility in course selection so that candidates may build upon prior academic work and teaching experiences.
All applicants are required to submit a portfolio (slides, CD, video, or original work), examples of scholarly writing (papers, thesis, articles or other publications), and the Art and Art Education Application Supplement (please call 212 678 3360 to request the Supplement). Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in studio art, art education, art history, museum education, or present other evidence of competence.

Some coursework may be completed during the fall semesters either online or as an independent study. During the spring semesters, students are required to attend a weekend course for additional points.

To apply for admission, please visit TC Admissions. We accept applications on a rolling, space-available basis. While there is no formal deadline for INSTEP, we highly recommend submitting your application before June 1st in order to be reviewed in time for classes.Financial Aid
Our goal is to help remove financial barriers to assist students in meeting the cost of attendance at the institution. Tuition scholarships are available on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Scholarships are awarded on a funds-available basis.If you are interested in applying for Federal Student Aid, you will need to file for FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to include the Teachers College school coded G03979. After we receive your FAFSA information from the Department of Education, within 14 days you will receive a financial aid award letter. We strongly recommend completing as early as possibly if you are planning to attend Teachers College this summer.
