SYNOPSIS:

SSRC fellowship and grant programs provide support and professional recognition to innovators within fields, and especially to younger researchers whose work and ideas will have longer-term impact on society and scholarship. These programs often target the spaces between disciplines, where new perspectives emerge and struggle for acceptance, thus ensuring the production of knowledge and expertise on key topics, regions, and social challenges. They promote the diversification of knowledge production, strengthening research by ensuring that it remains open to (and challenged by) a range of perspectives, backgrounds, and nationalities.

SYNOPSIS:

The sponsor awards a fellowship that enable U.S. graduate students to pursue specialization in area and language study or to add an international dimension to their education. Boren Fellowships support students pursuing the study of languages, cultures, and world regions that are critical to U.S. national security but are less frequently studied by U.S. graduate students, i.e., areas of the world other than Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.  Fellowships enable both masters and doctoral level students representing a broad range of academic and professional disciplines to add a significant international dimension to their curricula.

SYNOPSIS:

Scholarships support participation in three to four-week German studies and language courses at various German universities during the summer.  Eligible applicants are students pursuing full-time study at U.S. or Canadian colleges and universities.  Scholarships are DM 1400 each.  A travel subsidy of DM 400 is provided.

SYNOPSIS:

The sponsor offers a two, six or nine month Japanese language program for foreign postgraduate students who are majoring in the social sciences or the humanities and who wish to improve their Japanese-language ability.  Participants are required to already have basic Japanese-language proficiency

SYNOPSIS:

Support is provided for those majoring in liberal arts or social sciences, or serving in cultural/artistic professions that are related to Korea/Korean Studies who wish to learn the Korean language in Korea. The fellowship period is for six months. Candidates with a Master's degree and below receive a stipend of 800,000 won; doctoral candidates and above receive a stipend of 1,000,000 won.

SYNOPSIS:

The sponsor provides scholarships to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries.  Scholarship candidates must be citizens of a country in which there is a Rotary Club.  Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships are for either three or six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country and provide funds to cover round-trip transportation, language training expenses, and home stay living arrangements, not to exceed US $12,000 and US $19,000 respectively.

SYNOPSIS:

Fellowships of up to $5,200 are provided for short-term field trips (three to four months) to Bangladesh designed for preliminary dissertation field activities, such as investigating potential research sites, research materials, development of language skills, and establishing local research contacts.  Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program in a North American University.

SYNOPSIS:

The sponsor provides graduate students with travel funds (international and domestic) to Latin America, Spain and Portugal to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of language and culture, to gather research data and to develop contacts with scholars and institutions in their fields. Eighty teaching assistantships, providing approximately Euro 700 net each, are available to U.S. citizens to help teach the English language and American studies, to German high school students. Applicants must be under thirty and unmarried, with preference given to students of German preparing for careers in teaching German.

SYNOPSIS:

Support is provided for U.S. citizens, who are unmarried, without dependents and under thirty years of age, to assist in teaching conversational English to students in Korean secondary schools.  Grants provide a basic stipend of about $1,000 per month.  The Fulbright award covers round-trip international travel, health and accident insurance, and orientation costs.

Up to fifty assistantships are available to teach English and American culture in French primary and/or secondary schools.  Stipends are approximately 5800 French francs per month for seven months, depending on location.  No travel allowance is provided.
