In the philosophy and education program, students can pursue questions in aesthetics, ethics and moral philosophy, philosophical anthropology, feminist theory, and epistemology as these bear on educational concerns. Students can also pursue central issues in the philosophical foundations of education. Study of a variety of historical and conceptual frameworks enables students to develop theoretical perspectives on education, and to analyze and criticize arguments in contemporary educational debates. Throughout their course of study, students are encouraged to read and examine, from a philosophical perspective, a wide spectrum of recent empirical and policy-related educational literature.
Students in the program in philosophy and education have four degree options. Each degree has specific requirements, reflecting the respective nature, purposes, and value of the degree for the student's subsequent career.
