    ARAD News: 

    The Arts Administration Program is pleased to announce two new scholarships available to the incoming class of 2015.  A heartfelt thank you for the generous donations from the family of alumna Sarah Bolson Barnett, and Kenneth and Anna Zankel!

    Program Overview:
    The program in Arts Administration (ARAD) encourages integration of all the arts, while focusing on the role of the artist, and the missions and activities of arts and cultural agencies, collectives, and institutions.
    The program reflects the conviction that the management of cultural institutions and enterprises is a profession that requires both creativity and commitment and that, at its best, the profession has a positive impact on the quality of artistic life. Arts Administration is organized in conjunction with the programs in Arts & Humanities department and the Columbia Business School, further reflecting the importance of the basic educational role, mission, and activities of the arts in both profit and nonprofit sectors.

Adam Tramantano, a doctoral student in English Education, a part-time instructor in Arts and Humanities, and a full-time teacher at The Bronx High School of Science, and has recently launched an open-access, peer-reviewed Journal of Improvisation in Professional Practice.

The atmosphere was electric at the December 3, 2014 doctoral degree recital of trumpeter Jarritt Sheel, candidate for the Doctorate of Music Education. The recital displayed Jarritts technical mastery and powerful artistic expression.

This roundtable will explore the questions: Why have we traditionally looked to historical knowledge as a building block of democratic participation and a central component of what it means to be an American? How can history pedagogy be framed as a challenge to social and economic inequality? How do we reach young learners to appreciate the study of history as integral to their quality of life and the well-being of American democracy?

    Donald Borror

    Donald is interested in executive leadership positions in dance companies and multi-disciplinary performing arts organizations. He graduated from Juilliard with a BFA in Dance and performed with NYC-based Ballet Hispanico for three seasons. Currently, Donald is a choreographer and producer for Lincoln Center Education’s Meet the Artists series, Board Chair of non-profit dance advocacy org BEMOVING, and interning at arts management consulting firm, Dunch Arts.     As a vital part of preparing our students for careers, an internship is a requirement of the program.  Arts Administration students aim to fill a variety of roles – from nonprofit programming and development to the art market and PR firms – that will expose and prepare them for their professional careers.
