Program Costs

Doctoral students are required to complete 90 points of academic credit during three to four years of coursework at Teachers College. Beginning in fall for the 2007-2008 academic year, tuition for all regular courses is $1,030 per point. This does not include basic medical insurance, health service fees or college fees, which combined cost approximately $2,896 per academic year. There is also a Teacher’s College fee of $340 for the fall semester.

Most doctoral students with significant financial need obtain help in the form of a tuition scholarship.  On average, students receive a scholarship that covers approximately 15-40% of the cost of a year of tuition; scholarship monies for minority students tend to be on the higher end of this range.  Some students also receive stipends from faculty research grants. Most students also work part-time to cover expenses.

Teachers College has three scholarship funds: General, Diversity and International Student. The College also arranges a variety of student loans with banks, most of them repayment- and interest-deferred. Many students finance their educational expenses with federally guaranteed loans under the Stafford Loan program. Limited work-study funds may also be available. Students may contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information.
