General FAQs

Do I need to take the GRE?
No, the GRE is not required for any degree programs in music and music education.

Is an audition required?
An audition is only required if you are applying to the Ed. D in College Teaching Program.

What is the difference between each of the Masters programs?
A brief explanation of the different Masters degrees can be found here.

How many recommendations do I need to include in my application?
Only 2 recommendations are required in your application.

Where can I find specific information about the application process at Teachers College?

When is the application deadline?

Ed.D. programs:
Early Deadline: January 2
Final Deadline: April 1

Master's programs:
Early Deadline: January 15
Final Deadline: April 15

Applicants for the Spring Semester all programs:
Early Deadline: November 1

Students must meet the early deadline to be considered for scholarships.  Admission applications received after the early deadlines may be considered on a space available basis.

Applications to the Ed.D or Ed.D in College Teaching are reviewed only in Spring for Fall admission.

How can I arrange a campus visit or meetings with faculty?
Please contact Nate Olson at his email address: njo2108@columbia.edu.  He will assist you in setting up a time to visit, meet with faculty, and answer any questions you may have. 

Does Teachers College offer housing?
Yes.  If you are interested in Teachers College housing you should submit an application for housing as early as possible. Make sure and send in any supporting documents as soon as possible as well, your application is not complete and will not be processed until they are received. Many students apply for housing at the same time they apply to the college.  For more information please see the Office of Residential Services Web site.
