Music Lesson FAQs
In what instruments do you offer instruction?
We offer instruction in all instruments at all levels including classical piano, jazz piano, classical guitar, jazz guitar, voice (all styles), harpsichord, percussion, drum set, music theory and composition.
How many hours of lessons will I receive per semester?
You will receive 10 hours of instruction. Some instructors prefer to give ten 60-minute minutes lessons while others might offer fewer, longer lessons.
Will my lessons be in a class format?
Your lessons will be one-on-one with your instructor and will be set up at a mutually convenient time.
May I request an instructor?
You may request an instructor, though the Applied Lesson Program reserves the right to make the teaching assignment.
How do I register for lessons?
Applied Lesson forms are available in Room 520A Horace Mann at Teachers College or you may request a form via email: musiced@tc.edu.
May I register for non-credit?
Unfortunately we do not offer non-credit courses.
If I do not finish my course work may I take an incomplete?
Incompletes are not given in applied lessons.
Must I get approval to take applied lessons?
Yes. You should always check with your advisor and get the appropriate signatures from they authorized person at your school; in many cases the Dean's office.
Are lessons offered during the summer?
Yes lessons are offered both Summer A & B.
Are there practice facilities at Teachers College?
Yes. The cost is $100 per semester, $50 of which is a key deposit which is returned upon timely return of the key.
Are lessons offered pass/fail?
You will receive a letter grade for applied lessons.
