APA Accreditation Status

    PhD Information

The Ph.D. Program in clinical Psychology at TC is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association. We were granted “full and seven years” following our recent site visit in the Fall of 2008. Our next scheduled site visit is in 2015. For general information about APA accreditation or specific information about the accreditation status of the Ph.D. Program at Teachers College, you may contact:

Some comments from the Spring 2009 APA report (based on the Fall 2008 site visit) are excerpted below:

"[O]n the basis of this review, the Commission [on Accreditation] (CoA) voted to award accreditation for this program. In so doing, the Commission scheduled the next accreditation visit to be held in 2015...

Practicum experiences appear plentiful and varied, with students having a diverse clientele with which to work...although generally psychodynamic in perspective, the program does a very good job of offering other perspectives. The faculty members are available to students and are good role models. The program has an impressive group of students that are appropriate in number, given the size of the faculty... the program has required diversity courses and also infuses diversity into all aspects of the curriculum, including practicum
experiences. This infusion of diversity and multicultural education appears to be a strength of the program...Reports from faculty and graduate students indicate that students are treated with respect and
relationships are collegial. Graduate students were generally very positive about advisement and support received from faculty member advisors...In closing, on behalf of the Commission on Accreditation, I (Susan F. Zlotlow) extend congratulations to faculty and students of the professional psychology program for their achievements."
