Internet Workshops
All Internet workshops meet in a computer lab and use either Macintosh or Windows
environments. Each is offered for 1 graduate credit or for non-credit. Registration
for each is limited.
Note: Participation for credit requires attendance until 4:45pm on each
workshop day and the completion of a one-credit assignment.
Designing Educational Activities using the Internet

Prerequisite: experience using Internet tools.
This workshop is for classroom teachers and instructional designers who want
to design and develop Internet specific educational activities. Participants
will be introduced to a systems approach to the process of designing activities
using various Internet services.
Publishing on the Web as an Educational Activity

Prerequisite: experience with using web browsers. No prior knowledge about web
publishing is needed, though this class builds on concepts covered in MSTU 4831.
This inspiring workshop is for educators, administrators and faculty, who wish
to design their own interactive web site using Dreamweaver for their personal
or professional enrichment. Learn how to integrate graphics and photos to high
quality World Wide Web pages that incorporate tables, stylesheets, Java scripts,
web forms and surveys. Participants will also begin to consider various issues
that arise when using the web, such as how to make WWW sites accessible, and
how to address security, privacy and copyright considerations.
Integrating Web Publishing into Classroom Curriculum

This workshop builds on concepts from MSTU 4832, concentrating on the principles
and issues of designing web sites for use in educational environments. The course
aims to introduce instructors and administrators to what is involved in creating
and maintaining web sites. The topics covered include: identifying the site
audience and usage, general issues and concerns, design considerations, instructional
design consideration, technical and organization considerations, using web publishing
for students' projects, and evaluating educational sites. Participants will
create a web site as well as review other educational and school web sites.
Knowing how to create web pages is useful.
Work Conference: Creating Digital Maps with Google Earth

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites, but some familiarity with using a PC computer will be helpful.
This workshop provides an introduction to using Google Earth for the teaching of geography and social studies oriented topics. Participants will learn how to create and edit their own interactive digital maps, and then integrate and evaluate the data found on these maps. Lesson plans and open source resources will be provided. Software: Google Earth, a free software program that brings the world to your classroom.
Women and Technology: Problems and Solutions for Schools

This workshop explores gender issues involved in modern technology and how these are translated into problems and practice in schools. How can we encourage girls to use computers and ensure equity in computer use? What opportunities are available for women in the field? Participants will discuss issues, examine software, hear about current projects and work in the field and plan solutions.

Instructor: Shawna BuShell
This workshop introduces participants to the creative methods for the integration
of digital video in education. Students will digitize pre-recorded videos andedit
them using Apple's iMovie. We will look at the surrounding community as a resource.
Students will research a local historical site and produce a one-minute video
that will be exported to QuickTime and burned to a DVD.
Creating Dynamic Websites with Dreamweaver

Prerequisites: No HTML coding or programming experience needed, though experience
with MSTU 4832, Dreamweaver, or other graphic Web publishing software is strongly
recommended.
Imagine creating a web site that responds to your users, is easy to update and
does not consist of thousands of HTML pages to maintain. In this hands on workshop,
learn how to create forms, web pages and a database that will work together
to give your web site powerful dynamic features. You'll be able to collect information
from your users to create surveys, have people register on your web site, password
protect your site, and display and sort information so that one web page can
replace thousands!

Help your organization, college program, school or District yield more grant awards. Improve your knowledge about the successful elements in developing high quality grant proposals. During this two-day hands-on workshop, participants will experience a comprehensive approach to the proposal development process and learn specific steps needed to produce a winning grant proposal. Areas covered will include how to seek grant opportunities that match your program's goals and objectives, locating prospective grantors, tailoring your proposal to guidelines and requirements, budget building and the grant submission process. Workshop presenters have successfully written and directed funded proposals totaling over $10 million for their school district.
