EXTERNAL FUNDING OPTIONS
John Deere Foundation
“John Deere places a high priority on improving the quality of life in the areas it serves. In general, the company supports projects in communities where John Deere has a major presence (manufacturing facilities, sales branches, and parts depots), making those places better places to live and work. The John Deere Foundation gives priority to applications that fall in its four major program areas: health and human services; education; community development; and arts and culture."
U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation
“The U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF) is a nonprofit organization authorized by the U.S. Congress and established in 1995 by the National Science Foundation. This unique public-private partnership promotes international scientific and technical collaboration through grants, technical resources, and training.”
Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
“These are our general rules for eligibility of students supported through EPSRC funding. We do not give money directly to students, but fund universities through training grants. Training grants to universities include funding for fees and stipends (maintenance payments for students).”
Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers
“A partnership between Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. and the National Science Teachers Association, the Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers program offers grants to K–12 science teachers for innovative projects that enhance science education in the school and/or school district. 50 large grants and a minimum of 20 mini-grants, totaling $550,000 in all, will be awarded this year.”
Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
Postgraduate training (studentships): We fund around 1,100 PhD students and about 290 Masters students each year. Studentships are funded through university departments and NERC research centres, so we do not deal directly with applications from prospective students.
Fellowships: We fund around 100 Fellowships at any one time with 30 new awards each year. These awards provide opportunities for outstanding environmental scientists to devote their time to research, developing their research careers and producing work of international importance.
Research grants: The NERC research grants schemes are intended to provide financial support for environmental scientists to carry out research projects of international quality at UK universities and other approved institutions. We provide a number of different schemes designed to support the varying needs of the community.
