Communication,
Computing and Technology in Education (CCTE) is at the forefront of the
educational technology field. Internships with CCTE emphasize the
importance of bringing together effective pedagogy and practical
application in the real-world. CCTE interns can exert control
over their educational process through applied learning and
scholarships.
Interns work one-on-one with a CCTE internship coordinator, who serves
as a liaison between the intern and the supervisor at the placement
company. Prior to the commencement of the internship, the intern and
coordinator work together to design a plan and meet regularly
throughout the semester to talk about coursework for the internship.
The scope of CCTE's new media development efforts includes:
K-12 Schools – CCTE partners with both private and public schools in
New York City, giving students a wide range of internship opportunities
in K-12 schools, as well as opportunities for professional development, and
curriculum support.
Project Development - This area of work involves the creation of
interactive, web-based, and instructional media that model effective
educational design in all sorts of media environments. Our premier
projects include CTELL (http://ctell.uconn.edu/home.htm) and an
upcoming interactive educational website, “Sculpture with Richard
Serra,” for the Joy2Learn Foundation (http://www.joy2learn.org).
Research – CCTE is at the forefront of instructional technology,
communication, and computing. Research internships run the gamut of all
three disciplines, including television, computers, interactive media,
instructional media, educational change and reform, media literacy,
media education, new media, and many others. Research internship
involves in-depth reflection and study and work to integrate research
methods, which are taught in courses in the CCTE program and in courses
throughout Teachers College.
Evaluation - Educational projects and products for K-12 education, at
the university level, and in the private sector are evaluated using
various techniques and strategies.
The CCTE Internship Program is intended to be an Opportunity for students to do the following:
- Gain practical knowledge of their prospective fields.
- Work with practitioners, researchers and developers in the
development of innovative and improved pedagogical approaches with the
use of new technologies.
- Acquire new knowledge about the uses of new technologies in
reforming education through research, discussion with other interns,
and colleagues in the areas mentioned above.
