Introduction to Education Leadership Programs
We wish a warm welcome to all of our future and current students and alumni who may be visiting this website. The program in Education Leadership has a distinguished faculty whose mission is to prepare committed graduate students to serve as leaders of diverse school districts and schools.
The Education Leadership Program at Teachers College, Columbia University includes masters and doctoral programs. Our programs are designed to serve four types of graduate offerings:
- Klingenstein Private School Leadership Program (masters degree),
- Summer Principals Academy (masters degree),
- Urban Education Leaders Ed.D. Program (UELP), and
- Ph.D. Program in Education Leadership.
Our aim is to prepare graduate students for thoughtful and strategic leadership in schools, school systems, and educational organizations, and to be effective leaders, change agents, academic researchers and teachers. What distinguishes our programs is an integrated academic and skill-based focus on leadership development. We draw from a world-class faculty in six core domains of leadership development: Balancing Leadership, Managerial Skills, Adult Professional Development, K-12 Pedagogy and Instructional Philosophy, Governance, and Community-Building. In leadership preparation, we emphasize both the acquisition of theoretical and evidence-based knowledge and the development of skills, habits of mind, and values essential to creative and highly effective leadership. Our graduate programs are also distinctive in their emphasis on self-awareness, group dynamics, team building, and social, emotional, and inter-cultural competencies. We have sophisticated and practical internship programs for our practitioner degrees and use highly skilled coaches to support them.We encourage you to visit us, speak with program directors, and review our extensive online materials.
