B.A. in Comparative Literature, English, and Journalism from Indiana University, Masters degrees in literary and Critical Theory from Cornell (ABD) and Secondary Education from Vanderbilt. Having taught literature and composition at Cornell and The University of Memphis, James left academia to teach high school students in 2002. Since then, he has taught in public middle and high schools in Nashville and Brooklyn. He expands his students' traditional English language arts curriculum with interdisciplinary projects, including digital video production and composition in multiple media formats.
