Max Turner is the Assistant Director and proud alumnus of the Summer Principals Academy. In his role as Assistant Director, Mr. Turner leads the work surrounding recruitment, data, and technology. Additionally, Mr. Turner serves as a course instructor in SPA. Prior to joining the SPA Administrative Team, Mr. Turner worked for the Louisiana Department of Education, where he piloted the Executive Leadership Academy for aspiring Louisiana district leaders, supported the implementation of Louisiana’s Compass System for Teacher Support and Evaluation, and worked directly with school and district leaders to implement school reforms. Mr. Turner entered education as an English teacher in rural Louisiana. His experiences as a classroom teacher, academic dean, and teacher mentor in impoverished rural school districts ignited his interest in rural school policy. Currently enrolled as a doctoral student at Teachers College, Mr. Turner hopes to use his experiences working in rural school districts to examine the impact of education reform in urban and rural settings. Prior to entering education, Mr. Turner received a B.A. from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and worked for a production company in Los Angeles, California.
