Judith Ann Blake Thompson was born and raised in the Midwest. She attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, majoring in Elementary Education and Sociology. She obtained an M. Ed. degree in Special Education from Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Arizona State University. During her career in education, Judy taught general and special education classes at the preschool, elementary, and high school levels for eighteen years. She then entered the field of school administration where she served in the central office and as a principal with Fairfax County Public Schools. Recently retired, Judy joined the Summer Principals Academy (SPA) staff at Columbia Teachers College in 2010 and enjoys mentoring aspiring principals in urban settings.
