During her 16 years in education Ms. Land has served as a mentor, Special Education Teacher of the Year, Lead Counselor, Assistant and Associate Principal. In addition to those duties, she has served as the administrator over Special Education, ESL and the Counseling Office. For the past three years Ms. Land has worked in Houston ISD.; she worked for Jack Yates Senior High School as the 9th Grade Assistant Principal, 2009-2011, and at Johnston Middle School as the Principal over House J where she was also responsible for the Special Education Department, ELA/R Department and the ESL Department. While at Johnston, Ms. Land created and ran a PLATO Lab for overage 8th grade students. She has created the master schedule for two middle schools in Fort Bend ISD. Ms. Land was very instrumental in helping Fort Bend ISD acculturate students who fled to the district when New Orleans was hit by hurricane Katrina. Ms. Land was the summer school principal at Hodges Bend Middle School specifically for these students to make sure that their transition was smooth. Once Ms. Land is finished with her doctoral degree, she aspires to be a principal in order to affect the type of change that she personally wants to see in schools and their surrounding communities. Ms. Land received her Master of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston – Victoria and her Bachelor of Science in Social Science from the University of Houston-Downtown. She is currently enrolled in a Doctoral Program at Lamar University where she is concentrating her studies on Multiculturalism and Diversity. She received her principal certification from the University of Houston – Victoria. Ms. Land is a member for Alpha Kappa Alpha Soriety Inc. She is a member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church and is the proud mother of one daughter, Alexis, who attends school in Fort Bend ISD.
