Laura del Pilar Peynado-Castro
B.A. in Anthropology and Sociology, College of Holy Cross; M.A. in Bilingual Education, Teachers College. Originally from the Dominican Republic, Laura migrated to the United States at age12 where she enrolled in New York City’s public school system. After college she returned to New York’s public schools, this time as a Teach For America corps member. Before committing to a position as a Bilingual Science Teacher at MS 390 in the Bronx, Laura spent time instructing adults for the GED exam and tutoring deaf individuals in Spanish, English and Social Studies using American Sign Language.
