B.S. in Bioengineering, University of Pennsylvania. While an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, Nina was selected to be the first participant in a newly-created bioengineering study abroad program to Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Upon graduation Teach For America placed her in Watts to teach ESOL to high school students. Her second year as an educator was at Miami Central Senior High School where she won the Rookie Teacher of the Year award while teaching students with autism. This experience led her to graduate study at Florida International University where her research consisted of applying engineering principles to discover the neurological basis of communicative disorders in autism. Recently, while still teaching, Nina founded SHAPE Futures, Inc., a nonprofit that provides free, high-quality PSAT preparation for students in lower-income high schools.
