Scholarly Interests

My research interest lies in observing and making sense of the influence of socio-cultural and historical contexts on the contingent formation of self and how these negotiations within an individual are being mediated into art making. Through understanding the interconnectivity of the trio, artist educators would then be able to obtain a fuller picture in formulating their own pedagogy and in mentoring their students. The orientation of the next phrase of my research will remain within the same paradigm but focusing more on the current art education practice inside the Asian context. The purpose of the research is to create a pedagogy that encourage prospective art teachers to search for their individual identity as an artist researcher and to equipped them with the knowledge and confidence navigating around as an artist educator within the art education landscape of Singapore.
