Scholarly Interests

James F. Sumowski, Ph.D. is a Senior Research Scientist of Neuropsychology & Neuroscience at the Kessler Foundation and an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School.

Dr. Sumowski's research examines neurocognitive functioning and memory rehabilitation in children and adults with neurologic conditions, including multiple sclerosis (MS) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). His research focuses on heritable and lifestyle factors associated with neuroprotection despite disease/injury. For instance, he has shown that modifiable lifestyle factors such as intellectual enrichment and aerobic exercise may protect against memory decline.
