Music and Music Education, Tenure-track Assistant Professor

Position:  The Music and Music Education Program at Teachers College, Columbia University invites applicants for a tenure–track position in Music and Music Education at the Assistant Professor level starting in September 2015.  Doctorate in Music Education or related field required.   The College seeks applications from scholars who have a record of productive research in the area of music teacher education.

Responsibilities:  Develop and teach courses at the graduate level, including those designed for master’s students seeking music teacher certification; Coordinate student teacher preparation in the Music Program, including leading the music student teaching seminar, advising certification students, and building relationships with area schools; Supervise doctoral research; and carry out a successful program of research and peer-reviewed publication.

Qualifications:  Successful candidates should have an established record of scholarship/research in the field of music teacher education; demonstrated experience and expertise in public school teaching, with experience in multicultural and urban settings.  Demonstrated ability to incorporate new technologies and dedication to interdisciplinary and international work is highly desirable, as well as interest/experience with popular or World Music.
