On Saturday mornings from October to April, GO brings the love of learning to life at 4 partner schools. As more than 550 children greet each other and take their seats, our dedicated teachers and volunteer tutors welcome them and begin three hours of intensive lessons designed to empower each student as they build essential skills. Our model is unique; GO's professional teachers initiate lessons with students that are continued in small groups led by trained volunteers. Starting in January, we have afternoon one-to-one tutoring from 1pm-3pm for students who are at risk of failing the year.
The GO Project relies on members of our community to donate their time to help make our program a success. Volunteers are essential to helping us provide the small group and individualized instruction that are the cornerstone of our model. We are always looking for community members to join our team.

Become a Mentor today with Leake & Watts, a community based, non-profit organization in New York City, committed to addressing a myriad of challenges that confront individuals and families dealing with poverty, disabilities, and a lack of access to education and basic services.

Over the past few years, LGR has had a partnership with both Columbia University and Barnard College. This spring semester we are still in need of Verbal and Math coaches for these two sites. If you could please post this opportunity, it would be much appreciated. Below is a description of the coach responsibilities and time commitment.
*Coaches: *LGR coaches work intensively with a group of 5-7 high school juniors one night a week from February through the first week of May and teach either *Math or Critical* Reading and Writing content. We provide the training, materials, and curriculum. This is a wonderful opportunity for students looking to get practical teaching experience and a fulfilling service opportunity that makes a concrete difference in the lives of our students. New York Cares
Help give kids a strong foundation for academic achievement. New York Cares' Children's Education projects help New York City's underserved children develop their academic skills at an early age, improving their chances of getting into college and preparing them for future success.
As this project is run completely with volunteers, we are asking for a team(s) from TC who would be interested in signing up to help. We have open slots for preparation days on Friday 3/7, and distribution on Saturday 3/8 and Sunday 3/9.
The team can be 4 people or 20. You can stay 2 hours or all day, no limits or max. Volunteers will help organize, display and distribute gently used books to teachers with over 150,000 books being processed in 3 days.

Star Learning CenterStar Learning Center, a program of Goddard Riverside Community Center, offers tutoring to low-income students by using volunteer tutors.
84th Street Goddard Day Camp Volunteer Opportunity:
From 7/1/14 to 8/13/14 the Goddard Day Camp will be running small group tutoring for their students on building and retaining reading skills. They are looking for tutors three mornings a week- Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30-9:30 am. They will provide all of the materials, curriculum and specific diagnostic information on each student. They are looking for volunteers who have some background in teaching or tutoring who would be interested in leading one of their groups. Volunteers will be trained to use The AfterSchool KidzLit program, a reading enrichment program designed specifically for use in out-of-school settings.
Volunteers needed to tutor low-income children in grades 2-12 in various academic subjects. Tutoring will begin on June 30 and end August 15. Your commitment will be for one day, two hours per week. Tutoring will take place during the following days/times:
Monday 1-7, Tuesday and Wednesday 10-1 & 3-6, Thursday 12-6 and Friday 10-12.

Help squash barriers to academic success! One of the most important components of our program is the weekly homework assistance our students receive. Our volunteers are vital to the success of this program as they provide individual attention to our students and help with their evening assignments. Volunteers work with 1-2 6th-12th grade students at a time on their assigned homework under the supervision of our academic directors.
