Student Organizations

Student groups are a valuable component of Teachers College, Columbia University.  They provide a wonderful opportunity to network among peers with similar interests, as well as build a stronger sense of community.  Many students view members within their organization as an extended “family” to help support them throughout their TC experience and beyond. 

Student Development & Activities registers, advises and supports all student organizations of Teachers College. Although we encourage collaboration with Columbia University (main campus) and affiliate Colleges, please keep in mind that student groups at CU and affiliate schools  operate separately, with different requirements and processes for registration. 

There are 30+ certified student organizations at TC for the 2014-2015 academic year.  The missions for these organizations range from professional development, academic enrichment, cultural awareness, and social advocacy. Students are highly encouraged to research organizations at the College, as well as explore Columbia University, and affiliate schools for additional groups that may suit your interests.

Certification Guidelines

We strongly encourage you to research currently certified groups before creating a new one.  If your interests are not met, you may submit the following prerequisite materials:

1) New Student Organization Questionnaire
2) Leadership/Membership Contact Information
3) Faculty Mentor Consent form

Documents will be reviewed by the Student Org Support Team consisting of SDA professional and student staff.  Please allow at least 10 business days for review. Notification will be sent via email to the applicant(s).  

Groups that receive an "approval" email from our office will be instructed to complete the Certification Packet.  Please note, Certification Packets are accepted only during a Designated Certification Cycle.  As such, please be mindful of when you submit your prerequisite materials and our standard turnaround time. Groups that receive a "denied" notice are welcomed to revise and resubmit forms during the next Designated Certification Cycle.
