Event Details: Black and Latino Male Doctoral Student Initative - Panel for Doctoral Students

Description: Sponsored by:
OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR DIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS
& THE OFFICE OF THE PROVOST

Dear Doctoral Students,
I am writing to inform you of the next event in the series of Black and Latino Male Doctoral Education Initiative panel discussions, on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, 5:00-6:30pm, in 418 Zankel. The topic will be “How do I make the best of the advisor relationship?”

We began the initiative in 2011 under the guidance of the Provost Tom James and the Vice President’s Office for Diversity and Community Affairs. The initiative is to improve the opportunities for Black and Latino male masters students considering the pursuit of doctoral education. This event is open to everyone.

Our Fall 2013 panel discussion designed for Masters students, Doctoral Education: What is it? How do I get there?, was held on Thursday, November 21st, and was extremely successful.

Several esteemed faculty members are contributing to this series to share their insights about doctoral education, research and mentorship, and to encourage you to leverage the relationship with your advisor to make measurable progress and finish expeditiously.

We know you have a busy schedule and many academic, professional and personal commitments. However, we hope that you will make time to join us on March 25th, 5:00-6:30pm in 418 Zankel, for the next informative and encouraging panel that will focus on the doctoral student advisor relationship.

The invited panelists include:
• Professor Felicia Moore Mensah – Associate Professor of Science Education, MST
• Professor Michelle Knight, Associate Professor of Education, C & T
• Professor Aaron Pallas – Professor of Education, Sociology and Education, EPSA
