Event Details: Black and Latino Male Doctoral Student Initiative - Panel for Masters Students
Description: Sponsored by:
OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR DIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS
& THE OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
Dear Masters Students,
I am writing to inform you of the next event in the series of Black and Latino Male Doctoral Education Initiative panel discussions, on Thursday, March 27, 2014, 4:30-6:00pm, in 263 Macy. The topic will be “What do professors want to see in a doctoral program application?”
We began the initiative in 2011 under the guidance of the Provost Tom James and the Vice President’s Office for Diversity and Community Affairs. The initiative is to improve the opportunities for Black and Latino male masters students considering the pursuit of doctoral education. This event is open to everyone.
Our Fall 2013 panel discussion, Doctoral Education: What is it? How do I get there?, was held on Thursday, November 21st, and was extremely successful. Several esteemed faculty members are contributing to this effort to share their insights about doctoral education, its value, research and mentorship, and to encourage you to continue your education.
We know you have a busy schedule and many academic, professional and personal commitments. However, we hope that you will make time to join us on March 27th, 4:30-6:00pm in 263 Macy, for the next academically informative and encouraging panel that will focus on the doctoral application process.
The invited panelists include:
• Professor Erica Walker – Associate Professor of Mathematics Education
• Professor Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, Assistant Professor of English Education
• Professor Terry Maltbia – Senior Lecturer, The Columbia Coaching Certification Program, Department of Organization and Leadership
• Professor Michael Wilson – Assistant Professor of Inclusive Education and Director, Teachers College School to Prison Pipeline Project
