How to Apply

Below is an outline of preferred steps applicants should follow when applying to Teachers College, Columbia University.

1. Review the Guide to Admission.  The Guide to Admission contains a complete listing of application requirements and deadlines.

2. Submit the Teachers College Online Application.

3. Receive your TC ID number.  Within two to five business days, after you submit your application, you will receive the TC ID Assignment E-mail.  Include this number on all correspondence sent to Teachers College.

4. Mail In application materials required for your application.  Download the Document Cover Sheet from your online application and include it with any materials mailed to the Office of Admission.  Remember to include your TC ID number on the form.

5. Receive status updates via e-mail from the Office of Admission regarding your application.  The Application Checklist and E-mail Communication Guide outline e-mails you should receive from the Office of Admission, once an application is submitted.  This form can be downloaded from your online application.

  • Application Checklist and E-mail Communication Guide:  Use this form along with the Guide to Admission to outline required application materials for your program.  The E-mail Communication Guide outlines the e-mails you should receive after your submit an application to Teachers College, Columbia University.  Keep this form for your reference, do not mail it to the Office of Admission.

  • Document Cover Sheet Use this form to submit application materials that must be mailed to the Office of Admission.  We encourage you to mail in application materials after you have received your TC ID number.  The TC ID number is issued after you submit an application to Teachers College.  This will expedite matching materials to your application. 

  • Recommendation Form: We encourage applicants to have recommendations submitted online.  Use this form for recommendations that are being mailed in.  Using your TC ID number will expedite matching the recommendation to your application.

  • Evaluation of Academic Credentials: If your undergraduate academic credentials are from an institution outside of the United States and Canada, we encourage you to provide a World Education Services, Inc. (WES) course-by-course evaluation of all post-secondary credentials (undergraduate and graduate, if applicable). This will expedite your application review. It is your responsibility to provide the necessary paperwork and payment to WES, and to request a copy of the report be sent to the Office of Admission at Teachers College. We must receive the completed WES report by the appropriate admission deadline. The evaluation copy provided to Teachers College becomes an official academic record document and the sole property of the College upon receipt. Please note that these evaluations will be reviewed by Teachers College administrators and the determination of degree equivalency to US degrees is at the discretion of Teachers College. WES will complete and mail your evaluation to Teachers College within 7-10 business days from the day all documents are received. For an extra charge they will provide rush services for same-day and three-day evaluations. Forms for evaluation by WES may be downloaded from the WES website at www.wes.org.
