SAYING THANKS Teachers College Trustee Elliot Jaffe gives a speech as his wife Roslyn watches during a ceremony to name Teachers College's Trustee Room after him. Jaffe is the chairman and CEO of Dress Barn stores and a noted philanthropist. The Jaffes have provided extensive support to the College, particularly to the Peace Corps Program, which trains returned Peace Corps volunteers for long-term commitments to teach in New York City's public schools.

EXAMINING HEALTH DISPARITIES Dr. Barbara Wallace, Associate Professor of Health Education at TC, introduces a panel at the first-annual Health Disparities Conference and Community Health Fair. This year's fair, organized by Wallace, the Center for Educational Outreach & Innovation and other TC faculty members, was themed "The Decade of Health Disparity Reduction: Towards Evidence-Based Models." The conference sought to launch a new generation of health disparities research through a multi-disciplinary approach. Wallace says the conference was, "the most successful first-time conference in the history of Teachers College. I'm very pleased and excited."

PEACEMAKERS Mahazin Banaji, a psychology professor at Harvard University, gives a lecture, "The Mental Origins of Conflict and Cooperation," as part of The Morton Deutsch Awards Ceremony for Social Justice at TC on April 6. Banaji was one of three honorees to be given the award named after the eminent social psychologist Morton Deutch (seated far right), who founded TC's International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution. The other honorees were Geoffrey Canada, CEO of the Harlem Children's Zone (pictured, right), and Adam Branch, Ph.D. candidate at Columbia University's Department of Political Science (not pictured).
