Stephen Cedermark (MA '08) teaches music to grades Pre-K through 3 at P.S. 58 The Carroll School in Brooklyn. He is a music teacher who vows to keep opera alive and is doing so with the help of the Metropolitan Opera. Check out the full story featured on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt here.

Michelle Dette Gannon (MA '02) created The Language Playground - a company devoted to helping parents teach their children to speak a second language. Why? For a lot of reasons, but mainly because she wanted to share her journey into language acquisition with parents like her - parents who want their children to speak a second language and have fun doing it! She shopping with your kids just got easier and educational! In addition to their educational website - Gannon and her team have developed an app called Lingo's Market. Using the app, children "shop" along with Lingo (left) feeding him over 100 food items commonly seen in a grocery store helping them learn how to spell and recognize over 100 food items in French, English, Spanish or Mandarin. Read more about The Language Playground and Lingo's Market here. >>

Artists Isabel Ezrati (MA '07), Erol Gunduz, Stepanka Horalkova, Rabeya Jalil,
Stephanie Mulvihill (MA '05), Hong Wan Tham, Heather Van Uxem Lewis (ME '10), and Jackie O. Pavlik (ME '06) are TC alumni, students and staff being featured at New Century Artists from January 8 - February 2. "Realities" - a group exhibition - encompasses a variety of media, including encaustic painting, film, photography and ceramic and bronze sculpture. Whimsical figures, organic shapes, deconstructed and layered forms and images convey new perspectives of physical and virtual reality.

January Alumni Newsletter

Happy New Year!
Wishing you and yours a happy new year and all the best in 2013!
TC has a lot to celebrate this year.

Celebrating a Tradition for Tomorrow

As Teachers College prepares for its year-long celebration of the founding of our school 125 years ago, we are presented with a wonderful opportunity to tell the TC story - our rich history, our legacy of firsts, and our positive impact on the community. Now is our time to reinvent ourselves once again - to build on our strengths, to embrace our distinctions, and to create an institution that honors the past while transforming the future.

To that end, we have literally sought to make our mark anew, developing an anniversary icon that speaks to our core values while also reflecting the unflagging vibrancy we bring to our work in each new era. The anniversary icon, which will be visible across our campus and in all our communications during the coming year, evokes a sense of forward motion and represents our four major areas of academic focus, Education, Health, Psychology and Leadership. Each of the four overlaps with the others, just as they do in our daily endeavors.

So, welcome to what will surely be a year to remember. Join with us in celebrating 125 years of excellence and join us, too, in looking forward to another 125.
