Dr. Parkes Testifies Before NYC Council Committee

Kelly Parkes, Associate Professor of Music and Music Education, testified to the New York City Council's Committee on Education on January 24 representing the concerns of the TC Teacher Education Policy Committee, chaired by Lin Goodwin, Vice Dean and Evenden Professor of Education. Parkes, who is involved in teacher preparation in the Arts and Humanities, provided suggestions for the City and New York State to improve teacher recruitment and retention. She cited TR@TC2, TC's innovative clinical residency program that prepares teachers for high-need schools in New York, as an example of a program with excellent teacher retention. Now in its seventh year, TR@TC2 is showing a retention rate of 85 percent.
