ICOA Young Artists Program

String Orchestra (Ages 13-18)

Teachers College is partnering with the International Chamber Orchestra of America (ICOA) this fall to launch the ICOA Young Artist Program - String Orchestra for string players between ages 13-18. Our first academic year includes 12 rehearsals, 6 workshops, 4 masterclasses, and 3 concerts.

Young musicians will be taught by professional performing artists and educators supervised by Prof. Lori Custodero from Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, The Juilliard School, Columbia University’s Teachers College, and Mannes School of Music, playing collaboratively in a string orchestra comprised of students and educators.

The program provides talented musicians professional orchestral training that aims to enhance the artists’ musicianship, while building extra-musical skills including but not limited to: effective collaboration, social awareness, and interpersonal communication. 

Instrumental sectionals rehearsal will have a maximum of 10 students to allow for more individual attention (average teacher-student ratio 1:8).

*Selected students will be Performing at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center with ICOA in 2017.
