Special Degree Requirements

A background in philosophy is required for Ed.M., Ed.D., and Ph.D. applications.

Additionally, an undergraduate major in philosophy is strongly recommended for the Ph.D. application.

Applicants to both the Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs must submit GRE scores.

We recommend strongly that applicants gain practical teaching experience in schools before they apply for the Ph.D.; for example, a full two years as a primary or secondary school teacher. Colleges and departments of education are more and more insisting that potential members of their faculty have this practical experience.

A sample of philosophical writing is required for all programs except the M.A. application.
