I set off my Chinese teaching career 4 years ago. I have solid academic background and strong passion for Chinese language and literature. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language and Literature, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and still two certificates in Chinese teaching, including the one I earned in the TCSOL Certificate Program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to joining the Chinese Tutoring Program as one of the Chinese language instructors, I have gained a wealth of Chinese tutoring/teaching experiences (especially with adult learners) both in Taiwan and the U.S. Aside from my Chinese teaching expertise, I’m always fond of fashion and art along with a wide range of other interests such as free writing, world music, and fitness.

I graduated from Peking University with an M.A. degree in Chinese Language Education, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Japanese Language and Culture Studies from the University of British Columbia. In addition, I completed the Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages Certificate Program offered by Teachers College, Columbia University. With two-year experience in teaching and tutoring Chinese to college-level students at both Teachers College and Peking University, I am proficient in the best teaching methodologies in Chinese language education for college students. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm and helping my CTP students achieve all their Chinese learning goals.
Ms. Molly Tong
After graduating from university with a degree in Journalism, I worked as a language teacher in and out of China for three years and found my passion in teaching Chinese. Last year I attended the TCSOL program at Teachers College, graduated with distinction, and got hired as a language instructor in the Chinese Tutoring Program.
As a language teacher, I believe that instead of being a leader or mentor, the teacher should put learner at the center of learning. That is why I am more like a learning partner or interlocutor to my students. During the past eight months in CTP, I have tutored students at various proficiency levels and ages, including younger learners in K-12. So far, I really enjoy the tutoring experience with all my students, and I am looking forward to seeing more people who are interested in learning Chinese as a second language!
