Phonetics for English Teachers - Saturday, July 22, 2017: 10am-3pm ($150)

Despite the fact that English language learners are almost invariably interested in improving their pronunciation, ESL and EFL teachers often neglect this aspect of effective communication. One reason may be a lack of understanding of the English sound system. This workshop is designed to give teachers an overview of the mechanics of sound production as well as an understanding of word- and sentence-level stress. Appropriate for both experienced and novice teachers, the workshop will help prepare teachers to work with their students on pronunciation and prosody.

Teaching English to Low Beginners - Saturday, July 29, 2017: 10am-3pm ($150)

Without sharing the same first language with the students, teaching ESL to absolute or low beginners can be very challenging. This workshop focuses on approaches suitable for teaching ESL to adults with beginning level proficiency. Topics include: course design, adapting/developing materials, and teaching strategies.
