Dr. Catherine Crowley will not lead a group of TC SLP master’s students to Bolivia in 2013. Instead, she is bringing a second group to Ghana. She is looking to establish another trip to Latin American for 2014, but this is not confirmed.
SLP program at Teachers College Columbia University.
Over the seven years, approximately 120 TC CSP students participated in the Bolivia program. This year the students focused their time at Camino de Sordos a school for children who are Deaf, CEREFE a school for students with various disabilities, and Hospital San Miguel with Dr. Rosa, Bolivia’s foremost cleft palate surgeon. While at Camino, the TC student clinicians assess students for aural and speech skills, provide daily aural habilitation therapy, and train parents, staff, and administrators at theschool how to continue the work once they leave. With the Camino faculty, the TC team works to ensure success for Camino students integrated in a general education school in the afternoons. Our work continues throughout the school year through telepracticewhere students continue aural habilitation therapy via Skype.
