In 2008, Time Magazine’s cover photo of former DC Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee, broom in hand, symbolized her desire to “sweep out” bad teachers in Washington, DC’s public schools. Teachers College, Columbia University invites Washington Post education reporter Bill Turque to provide his perspective on how DC education reform has fared in the three years since that article was written. Bill Turque came to The Post as an editor on the Maryland staff in 2002 after 15 years at Newsweek, where he covered the White House and national politics. He covered Fairfax County government before taking over the D.C. schools beat in April 2008. He’s also worked at The Kansas City Star and The Dallas Times Herald.
