Book Talk: My Journey through Poetry, with Simone Nikkole

Join us on Thursday, November 10th for an encore poetry reading by Simone Nikkole, a poet, spoken word artist, songwriter, and child advocate. Simone has written over 300 poems and has been featured in Signatures, Rochester Institute of Technology's annually published undergraduate art and literature magazine. Having received Honorable Mention in the 2001 New Jersey Art/Literary Competition for her poems "Life" and "Me", Simone has done readings and performances in churches, schools, and other cultural centers throughout the tri-state area. She recently began a new series of poetry workshops for youth.

In My Journey through Poetry, Simone Nikkole shares her thoughts and struggles, taking you on a journey from misunderstanding to love, heartbreak to growth and faith. Enjoy the roller coaster of emotions, including responses to bullying, and learn with her methods to cope with life's unpredictability. If you're looking for strength during self-discovery or comfort in knowing you're not alone, this book is for you.

To grow as individuals, we have to connect to the past, learn from our struggles, and allow the hard times strengthen us for the future. My Journey through Poetry provides that chance, showing that someone has been in your shoes and will help you triumph. Simone's book harnesses the belief that life gets better -- there is "light at the end of the tunnel." It's not about how you finish, but the journey you have in getting there.

Simone is a masters student in Mental Health Counseling at Teachers College, Columbia University and will be completing her studies at the end of the Fall semester.

Persons wishing to attend may rsvp by Tuesday, November 8th.
