The 5th Superintendent’s Roundtable to be held on the campus of Teachers College Columbia University on Thursday, October 25th (6-7:30pm). This roundtable is a monthly professional development think-tank with provocative guests who challenge participants to re-consider innovation and creativity in education.
Topic: Creating a Success Narrative: Moving from Good to Great in Harrison CSD
By Louis Wool, Superintendent – Harrison (NY) Community School District
Some say the job of superintendent is a thankless job. Others say the thanks comes from the smiles of parents, teachers and students in a successful public school system. However one decides to measure it, the success of a superintendent is inextricably link to the success of those around him/her. This months Superintendent Roundtable is a discussion with the 2010 NY State Superintendent of the Year – Lou Wool.
Louis N. Wool, superintendent of the Harrison Central School District, was named the 2010 New York State School Superintendent of the Year.
Wool has served the district of Harrison since 2002, which includes more than 3,400 students, and earned accolades for creating a disciplined and high-achieving curriculum.
Thomas Sobol, Former Commissioner of Education for NY State and faculty member at Teachers College described Lou as “one of the best”. Wool is credited with making significant, measurable gains in Harrison.
In 2010 (the year he was selected as Superintendent of the Year), the High School was ranked among the top performing schools, with a Regents Diploma rate of 95 percent. In 2002, that percentage was only 69 percent. The high school’s enrollment in Advanced Placement Calculus is almost four times higher than it was in 2003.
Under Wool’s leadership, the school district’s teacher evaluation program was called exemplary by the New York State School Boards Association. Join us for an evening of discussion.
