Dr. Keena Arbuthnot, an Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University, will be presenting her talk, entitled "Filling in the Blanks: Understanding Standardized Testing and the Black-White Achievement," on March 7th, at 3:30pm to 5:00pm, at Teachers College, Columbia University.
The lecture
will be focused on Dr. Arbuthnot’s recent book publication “Filling in the Blanks: Understanding the
Black White Test Score Gap” the purpose of the book was to help policymakers,
researchers, academics and teachers gain a deeper understanding of the
differences in the performance of Black and White students on standardized
tests. The lecture will focus on providing background information, as well as
the most recent findings, about testing and measurement concepts essential to
understanding standardized tests. Next,
Dr. Arbuthnot will provide an overview of the theories and research that has
been conducted which explain the differences in performance between Black and
White test takers on many standardized tests.
Most importantly, the lecture will present several new theories that
address why Black students do not perform as well as their White
counterparts. These theories present
very novel and innovative perspectives to understanding these test performance
differences.
