11, 1946 marks the founding of UNICEF,
the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, which was
established to provide relief and support to children living in countries
devastated by World War II.
To this day UNICEF serves as a relief organization and leading advocate for children's rights; its focus areas include child survival and development; basic education and gender equality; HIV and aids; child protection; and policy advocacy and partnerships. UNICEF us active in more than 190 countries, territories and areas through country programs and National Committees.
