2015 Winter Provost Series
Professor Bonanno's talk was titled: "Beyond PTSD and Resilience: Understanding the Diverse Response People Have to Potentially Traumatic Events".
With piles of snow still atop many New York City sidewalks, a large number of alumni and friends braved the cold to attend our 2015 Winter Provost's Series event with TC's Provost and Dean, Tom James on February 4. His guest speaker for the evening was Dr. George A. Bonanno, Professor of Clinical Psychology and Director of The Loss, Trauma and Emotion Lab at Teachers College.
Dr. Bonanno is an internationally recognized authority on human response to disasters and other traumatic events. In his talk, "Beyond PTSD and Resilience: Understanding the Diverse Response People Have to Potentially Traumatic Events," he introduced a wealth of new data supporting his paradigm-changing finding that most people are surprisingly resilient in the face of trauma. Bonanno's overarching goal is to understand factors that enable most people to cope well with trauma, in order to better help those who do not.
