Whittier Hall, one of the oldest residential buildings within Teachers College, first opened in 1901
The Office of Residential Services at Teachers College, Columbia University, complements the institutional mission of the College by striving to provide housing that is convenient, clean, and safe for campus residents, their families and guests. The department is committed to creating a stimulating, inclusive, and caring environment that supports the out-of-classroom experience and enhances intellectual, personal, and professional development.
Teachers College offers a variety of housing options for single and married students, students with domestic partners, and single parents. There are approximately 750 students living in 5 residence halls in the vicinity of the Teachers College campus. We have approximately 600 rooms/apartments for single students and 150 apartments available for families. Whittier, Bancroft, Grant, and Sarasota Halls are historic buildings similar to other early 1900’s New York City apartment-style buildings. The residence halls are staffed by professional and graduate live-in staff members. These staff members work together to enhance the efforts of the Office of Residential Services to foster a safe, supportive, and productive living environment for residents.
