Department Mission

The Department of Capital Projects provides a multitude of services from planning through construction renovation to enhance the academic and residential campuses incorporating innovative design solutions, new technology, energy efficient initiatives, and ergonomic furniture solutions.

The Capital Projects team maintains a high standard of quality service and stewardship to maintain the client's primary needs, enhance the overall architectural experience, and enrich the teaching and learning atmosphere at Teachers College, Columbia University.

The Department of Capital Projects is responsible for managing projects for all structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and aesthetic renovation projects on campus as part of a long term campus environment and infrastructure plan for the College. Where the project scale and complexity mandate, this effort may include outside attorneys, architects, engineers and other consultants as needed.

All projects will be reviewed, implemented and filed with the NYC Department of Buildings as per the mandated City and State codes. In partnership with the Office of Facilities, the Department of Capital Projects is responsible for setting the design standards which may include furniture.

The goal of the Department is to clearly define the needs of the client and maintain that objective for the full duration of the project from inception to completion.

Capital Projects is charged with long and short-range physical planning needs for Teachers College's campus. The team serves Teachers College's academic and administrative staff through the management of the College's domain. With each individual client, the Department of Capital Projects pursues to understand the space needs through collaboration to best address the programmatic requirements. Additionally, the Department is involved in the planning, coordination and implementation of all expansions/additions and other upgrades and takes the lead in such projects while working very closely with the Office of Facilities for implementation of such projects.
