A key component of The Campaign is the Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME), founded in 1973 by Professor Edmund W. Gordon.  Dr. Gordon is the John M. Musser Professor of Psychology, Emeritus at Yale University, Richard March Hoe Professor, Emeritus of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, and Senior Advisor to The Campaign.  He is widely known for his research on supplementary education and the education of low-status populations.  In 2005, Teachers College named its Harlem campus the Edmund W. Gordon Campus where IUME is housed.

As a component of The Campaign, IUME will continue its work to utilize education as an anti-poverty strategy; advocate equality of educational opportunity and equity, diversity and multiculturalism; and support school district reform to close the achievement gap between students of color and their peers.
