  • Health Returns to Education Interventions [Summary]

Peter Muennig is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. His research explores methods for elucidating unforeseen solutions to enduring domestic and international health policy questions via cost-effectiveness analysis. He is specifically interested in the effect of education and other socioeconomic disparities in health, and seeks to provide policymakers with strong and informative evidence upon which they might make decisions. He attended medical school at the University of California San Diego and completed residency training at the New York City Department of Health/Columbia University. Previously, he directed the Program in Cost-Effectiveness and Outcomes at New School University and consulted for Health Canada and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Muennig's recent honors include a Calderone Junior Faculty Award at Columbia University and an associate fellowship at the New York Academy of Medicine. He has published numerous studies in the medical literature, has a textbook on cost-effectiveness analysis, and has contributed to academic publications and governmental reports. Among these are two studies in the New England Journal of Medicine exploring efficient policies for improving immigrant health and a pilot study in Preventive Medicine exploring the health and monetary returns to education.
